The Adventure Roast: Mastering the Pour-Over Ritual
At Trailwood Coffee Co., we believe the way you brew your coffee is just as important as the beans themselves. One of our favorite brewing methods? The pour-over. Simple, elegant, and deeply satisfying, the pour-over transforms your morning cup into a meditative ritual that honors both the craft and the moment.
Why Pour-Over?
The pour-over method offers unmatched control over your brew. From water temperature to pouring speed, every step influences the final cup. This method brings out the nuanced flavors of our Trailwood roasts, highlighting the delicate notes and natural complexity of the beans.
Brewing the Perfect Pour-Over
Making a great pour-over doesn't require a barista degree—just a little patience and practice. Here’s how to start your pour-over ritual:
What You’ll Need:
-
Freshly ground Trailwood Coffee Co. beans (medium grind)
-
A pour-over dripper (like a V60 or Chemex)
-
A paper filter
-
A gooseneck kettle
-
A digital scale (optional, but helpful)
-
Hot water (around 200°F / 93°C)
Steps:
-
Prepare Your Filter: Rinse the paper filter with hot water to eliminate any paper taste and warm the brewer.
-
Measure Your Coffee: Use about 1 gram of coffee for every 15-17 grams of water. A good starting point is 22g of coffee to 350g of water.
-
Bloom: Pour just enough hot water to saturate the grounds and let it sit for 30-45 seconds. This "blooms" the coffee and releases trapped gases.
-
Slow Pour: Continue pouring in slow, circular motions, keeping the water level steady. Finish pouring within 2.5 to 3 minutes total.
-
Enjoy: Let the coffee finish dripping, then remove the filter and savor your cup.
Pour-Over as a Morning Ritual
The pour-over encourages you to slow down and be present. It’s a moment of stillness before the rush, a few minutes to ground yourself in the now. For outdoor lovers and adventurers, it’s a comforting ceremony that fits perfectly beside a quiet stream, in a cozy cabin, or even from your tailgate at sunrise.
